Faithfulness

The purpose statement of this blog is “Helping You Faithfully Walk Your Path of Life for the Glory of God.” This is the first of three posts focused on the major components of the purpose.

Why “Faithful?”

I could have chosen words like successfully or effectively. But these do not describe what I intend to communicate. The world would choose these words because everyone wants to be successful. Many of us look for ways to be more efficient.
But, I want the purpose of this blog to point to a higher calling. Our calling is not to be successful or more efficient as followers of Jesus Christ. It is to be faithful.

What does it mean to be faithful?

The root words in both Hebrew and Greek have a common thread. The common thread is a confident trust. A confident trust that results in standing firm. It results in not wavering even when the opposition is strong.

Why should we be faithful?

We should be faithful because God is faithful (Hebrews 10:23). God’s faithfulness is all we need as a motivation to be faithful. How could we be unfaithful to the One who has given us everything? Yet, we often find ourselves giving in to the temptations that cross our path don’t we? Why? I submit that it is because we quickly forget the faithfulness of God to us.

How are we to be faithful?

The following is a sampling of direct statements in the Scriptures about faithfulness. But, the principle of faithfulness is rightly applied to every area of our lives.

  • To be faithful to the truth – Proverbs 14:5
  • To be a faithful friend – Proverbs 27:6
  • To be a faithful servant – Matthew 25:21
  • To be a faithful steward – Luke 12:42
  • To be faithful to the Lord – Acts 11:23
  • To be faithful ministers – Ephesians 6:21
  • To be faithful in all things – 1 Timothy 3:11
  • To be faithful unto death – Revelation 2:10
  • To be faithful witnesses – Revelation 2:13
